Blogging Against Disablism Day, May 1st 2007

Check it out at the fantastic Diary Of A Goldfish!!!!!

Last year on 1st May, with the invaluable help of Lady Bracknell and with the support of many other bloggers, I hosted the first Blogging Against Disablism Day where almost a hundred and fifty people joined together to write about disability and rail against the discrimination that disabled people continue to face. Both disabled and non-disabled people wrote about all manner of subjects, from discrimination in education and employment, through health care, parenting, family life and relationships, as well as the interaction of disablism with other forms of prejudice......

This should be advertised in the press. Let everyone here about it.
It would be good to have non disabled views too.

Yes, people that are disabled have a harder time, which is a shame. There are some people that treat you mean, rude, and stare at you. But, the majority of people are nice, and kind. Health care, does need to come a long way to improve for the disabled. Sometimes, places that are fun, are still not accessible for everyone. We need more elevators, ramps, and easier ways to get into some places. I think that children should be taught in school about being disabled. They need to learn how it feels to be handicapped and feel different. I have children stare at me in the stores, which makes me feel bad. Kids need to be educated about what truly disabled means.
